DAY 1 - Welcome to Ireland!!!!!!
We meet at Shannon International Airport at 11am and get our luggage on to our tour bus as we start our musical journey in the company of The Black Velvet Band as we embark on our eagerly awaited tour of the Emerald Isle. We depart the airport at 11am sharp to make our way to the town of Dingle in Co. Kerry. Famous for it’s stunning scenery, vibrant bars and award winning restaurants and Irish music. Tonight we’ll join the Black Velvet Band for the first gig of their Irish tour.
DAY 2 -After breakfast we’ll take a drive
we’ll take a drive along the Slea Head peninsula with it’s rugged coastline and stunning views of the Blasket Islands. We’ll stop off for a tour of the Dingle Whiskey Distillery before returning to town for some more amazing food and traditional music.
DAY 3 - Village of Ennistymon
Today we leave Dingle and make our way north along the Wild Atlantic Way, crossing the Shannon Estuary by ferry, into Co. Clare and onto the picturesque village of Ennistymon. Before we reach Ennistymon, we’ll visit the village of Doolin where we’ll take a ferry out to Inis Mor island. We’ll have a few hours to take in the rugged beauty and experience island life at first hand. We’ll have a few tunes too while we’re here!!! We’ll then take the ferry back to the mainland and onwards to Ennistymon. Tonight we’ll enjoy an acoustic session with the Black Velvet Band and some guest musicians.
DAY 4 - Our way to Galway City
After breakfast, we’ll pack up and make our way to Galway City. We’ll make a stop at Oranmore Castle, owned and lived in by Alex and Leonie Finn. (Alex Finn was a founding member and bouzouki player with internationally renowned traditional irish music band, De Dannan.) We’ll have a couple of tunes in the great hall after Leonie gives us a guided tour and a history of their wonderful home. Once checked into our hotel, we’ll go into town and join the Black Velvet Band for another gig on their tour of Ireland.
DAY 5 - Short bus ride into the city centre
On this day we will meet at 10am in the hotel foyer to take a short bus ride into the city centre to catch the 11am walking tour of the city. (This will last approximately one hour and is a leisurely walk. We’ll have a few hours off for lunch and a pint before joining The Black Velvet Band for an acoustic session in the famous Taffee’s Bar. Again, we’ll spend the evening taking in the wonderful sights and sounds of this multicultural city.
DAY 6 - We’ll leave Galway making our way to Ennis
After breakfast we’ll leave Galway making our way to Ennis. On route we’ll stop off in the village of Athenry for a pint. Athenry is famous the world over for the song ‘The Fields of Athenry”. Once in Ennis you’ll have a few hours off to explore this historic town before The Black Velvet Band take to the stage in Durty Nelly’s Pub, Bunratty.
DAY 7 - Journey to the Cliffs of Moher
After breakfast this morning we journey to the Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction. From here we’ll make our way to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. A medieval castle, this historic monument hosts a banquet each evening celebrating Irish music, song and dance. Upon return to Ennis, we’ll take in some of the amazing music throughout the numerous bars and restaurants.
DAY 8 - Make our way back to Shannon Airport
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and after eight days of the best music and craic we must make our way back to Shannon Airport to continue on our separate ways. We’ll leave Ennis at approximately 12 noon for the short trip to Shannon Airport and our drop off at approximately 2pm. With wonderful memories, new friendships and a greater understanding of Ireland, it’s people, it’s history and it’s music, Slan Abhaile.
